MANILA, PHILIPPINES — CREATE Philippines presents Creative Futures, happening on June 28 and 29. The two-day online conference aims to celebrate the creativity of Filipinos and become an avenue in realizing the economic potential and business viability of the creative industry. It also zeroes in on the digital innovations that the creative economy can benefit from, such as the growing interest in esports.

The inclusion of esports in this year’s line-up of topics promises an exciting look into its current state in the Philippines and the opportunities that it presents for further development and generation of revenue. This well-oiled sector of professional players, professional teams, tournament organizers, and game developers has taken competitive gaming to a serious and professional level, putting the Philippines in the spotlight as it bags awards and honors in various esports competitions.

“The potential growth of the creative industry is big because the Filipino people are super creative. We just need to be able to get the industries counted, get the creatives to learn how to monetize their services or skills, and file all their intellectual properties (IPs). We need to work together on policies and laws that would help the creative economy,” says CITEM Executive Director Pauline Suaco-Juan.

Creative Futures Program Director Erwin Romulo adds, “We envisioned the conference as an avenue that will help push these remarkable projects a little further on, either by forging partnerships or facilitating conversations with potential collaborators in the private and public sector.”

Recognizing the Filipinos’ strong passion towards esports and the industry’s global potential, Evident Integrated Marketing and PR COO Stephanie Balois-Guerrero will share an overview of the industry, which will be followed by a video presentation by esports personality and Facebook Gaming streamer Rob Luna where he will share his thoughts on esports and take viewers through a day in the life of a creative in the industry, both on and off the screen.

All these segments will lead up to a roundtable discussion with Evident Integrated Marketing and PR CEO Cecile Dominguez-Yujuico, Tier One Entertainment CEO Tryke Gutierrez, Gariath Concepts Vice President for Business Development Ralph Aligada, Philippine Esports Organization (PESO) Deputy Executive Director Marlon Marcelo, and caster Mara Aquino, where they will discuss and share insights about local gaming and the esports ecosystem. Furthermore, they will explore esports as an emerging sector where technology, sports, and entertainment meet, and its potential to influence the future of the creative industries in the Philippines.

For the esports industry, it’s more than the revenue that it generates from sponsorships, advertising, and merchandise. It also provides a thrill for Filipinos, whether it’s the fans who follow and root for their favorite gamers, or the very people who develop the games. Ultimately, it’s able to foster pride in Filipino talent — pride that opens another avenue for the Philippines to be propelled to the world stage.
