MANILA, PHILIPPINES — The Society of Trans Women of the Philippines or STRAP will hold the first-ever TRANSPINAY SUMMIT 2021: Enabling a future-ready transpinay, supported by Google.

The two-day event is freely accessible to the public and will be streamed on STRAP’s Facebook page and YouTube channel on December 11, 2021 and December 12, 2021 at 1:00PM (Philippine Standard Time), hosted by Miss Trans Global 2020 Mela Habijan.

The conference aims to create a safe space for a helpful discussion online where transpinays can learn so much about various topics such as transitioning, legal matters, financial literacy, the trans advocacy and movement, workplace and career, self-expression, love and dating, and so much more! The event also strives to promote better understanding on diversity, equity and inclusion especially regarding gender identity among transpinays. Inspiring speakers will feature corporate and medical professionals, academics, innovators, thought leaders, influencers, activists, advocates, and allies–all working towards the empowerment of transpinays.

Rain Villagonzalo, Executive Director of STRAP, said “STRAP, a support group for the transpinay, by the transpinay, believes that there is an urgent need for more accurate and reliable information to be shared with the broader trans community. For example, we understand that there is misinformation around transitioning safely. So the challenge is, how do we help more transpinays beyond the organization get the right information? In the absence of a national anti-discrimation law that protects our trans sisters, we need to double-down on educating them about their human rights. There are many other topics in this summit that we wish would reach every transpinay out there. We hope that the knowledge that they’ll get from the summit will empower them as they navigate and enrich their daily lives.”

“STRAP’s first-ever transpinay forum is important as it will holistically equip the community with helpful knowledge and inspiring stories that can guide them in making confident decisions about their journey. Google is proud to support STRAP’s TRANSPINAY SUMMIT 2021 as part of our commitment to empowering the LGBTQ+ community and championing diversity, equity, and inclusion,” said Bernadette Nacario, Country Director of Google Philippines.

Nacario added, “We have made progress for the community but we still have a long way to go… Allyship in thoughts, words, and actions is also crucial. To win this fight, we need more allies who can champion and defend the transpinay community.

Get to know the inspiring movers and shakers of the trans community, and join the discussion of TRANSPINAY SUMMIT 2021: Enabling a future-ready transpinay on STRAP’s Facebook page and YouTube channel on December 11, 2021 and December 12, 2021 at 1:00PM (Philippine Standard Time).
