MANILA, PHILIPPINES — Lawmakers for LGBT+ Equality, presented by the Global Equality Caucus and supported by Google, will be streamed live on YouTube this coming Wednesday, July 14 at 7:00PM Manila time.

Lawmakers for LGBT+ Equality is an online global series of digital content where leaders connect with civil society and members of the LGBT+ community to raise awareness and discuss important issues. This aims to further amplify the voice of the Pride community and mobilize legislators to take action and feedback key issues to national governments, parliaments, and in international conferences.

Before Asia and Africa, the virtual event was held in South and Central America, Oceania, Europe, and North America, and the Caribbean–each focusing and drawing attention to specific issues affecting LGBT+ people in the respective global regions.

For the Asia edition, the event will be hosted by Bataan 1st District Rep. Geraldine Roman, the first-ever transgender elected to the Philippine Congress. She is one of the many proponents of the Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Expression (SOGIE) Equality Bill together with Risa Hontiveros who will be speaking at the event.

Powering the forum with YouTube as a video platform to reach more people is aligned with Google’s commitment to consistently supporting the LGBT+ community in many ways.

Google recently concluded its Pride Conversations: Championing LGBTQ+ MSMEs campaign to help promote and digitize Pride-owned businesses towards economic recovery.

Google.org provided $2 million to OutRight Action International’s “Covid-19 Global LGBTIQ Emergency Fund”. This aims to respond to the needs of the 100 organizations from more than 60 countries including the Lesbian Organization against Violence and Inequality in the Philippines. To further support OutRight’s advocacy for LGBT+ human rights globally, Google also provided $1 million in Ad Grants.

To help the community find safe spaces and give businesses the opportunity to demonstrate inclusivity, Google has updated Maps and Search to allow establishments to reflect if they have gender-neutral restrooms.
