MANILA, Philippines— Back for its second year, the Social Problems are Design Problems (SPDP 2021) by And a Half Design Studio is running from October 8 to 9. The two day event will answer the question: What is the future of design for a world in crisis?

With the theme Regeneration through Circular Design Strategies, the series will follow a micro to macro view on regeneration: starting from products, leading to businesses, spaces, and finally communities.

The speakers for the lecture series are: Carlo Delantar, Co-founder of Altum who will talk about circular design for products; Keiji Ashizawa & Kay Concengco, Founders of Ishinomaki Lab & Lamana PH who will talk about circular business models; Bert Peeters, Founder of the Philippine Permaculture Association, Cabiokid who will talk about sustainable spaces for nature + communities; and Christopher De Venecia Pangasinan 4th District Rep., ACCIB who will talk about opportunities for the creative economy.

Meanwhile, the workshop series will have two sessions: Food Sovereignty Workshop with SLOW FOOD SARI-SARI—Exploring Community Gardens as a way to achieve food sovereignty, empowering families to sustain themselves and their communities; and Better Cities Workshop with ANTHONY SIY—Exploring how to be more inclusive in space design and urban planning for better community mobility and wellness.

Tickets cost Php 850 inclusive of 2-day pass, zoom lecture series + live Q&A, video replay, gather town virtual gathering, one workshop session, discord community toolkit & resources, e-certificate (by request).
