MANILA, PHILIPPINES — Celebrating the power of love and unity for this year’s Pride Month, fashion brand adidas Philippines centers on the strengths and talents of the LGBTQIA+ community through the launch of its new Originals collection and local initiatives focused on recognizing the possible and proud moments of the Filipino LGBTQIA+ community.
The brand unveiled its latest Pride Collection in collaboration with queer artist and designer, Kris Andrew Small, a native of Sydney, Australia, who is known for creating bold works of art with a joyful explosion of colors and patterns. The resulting collection to mark Pride 2022 is inspired by the pop art and graphic design of the ‘70s and ‘80s and highly regarded voices in the LGBTQIA+ community.
Available in various styles fit for however one wants to express themselves, the line is decorated with the signature adidas “Love Unites” message on graphic tees, jackets, accessories such as hats and bags, as well as new colorways for the Forum, Superstar, and Stan Smith. Hidden within the abstract patterns and illustrations plastered on the collection, are messages of acceptance and self-love that spell out “Be One, Be Together.”
Further showing its support to the Filipino LGBTQIA+ community, adidas Philippines also celebrated Pride Month through local initiatives that brought members and allies together. On June 29, the brand, along with the adidas Runners Manila and its sub-group Limitless, which focuses on creating a safe space for the LGBTQIA+ community, held the adidas Pride Run in Bonifacio Global City. Participants ran together to proudly celebrate love and unity.
Ending the celebration of Pride Month on a high note, the brand also hosted the “I’m Possible and Proud” socials night, a culminating event held at the Modeka Art Gallery in Makati. Attended by members and allies alike, the event held a panel discussion joined by prominent members of the community such as comedian Macoy Dubs, Miss Trans Global 2020 Mela Habijan, architect, parkour coach, and artist, Karl Bautista; and trans rights activist, Venus Aves. The discussion revolved around their personal journeys, challenges, and successes that have now helped shape them in becoming strong advocates for equality, inclusion, and opportunity for the community.
“The brand promotes equality and inclusivity. We support and value the importance of being true to one’s self, because this is how we realize our true potential to reach all the possibilities that are within us. The celebration of love goes beyond Pride Month, and adidas will continue to stand strong for, and with, the LGBTQIA+ community. We want to create a safer and more inclusive space for everyone, because together, impossible is nothing,” said adidas Philippines brand communication and sports marketing manager, JD Cortez
