MANILA, PHILIPPINES — Day three at DIGIMAX: IMMAP Digicon 2023 is packed with talks and panels on Gaming and Web3, a future-focused day to wrap up the conference’s insightful discussions. The program was opened by keynote speaker Agencio.io UK LTD Co-Founder Justin James, with his talk entitled “Is the Seismic Web Dead Part 3.0?”
As a consultancy firm that focuses on AI innovation, the Agencio.io leader walked the audience through the history of technology and web innovations, recounting how the industry (or the world, really) has transformed throughout the years as a by-product of these developments. He opened his slides with the powerful statement: “The billion-dollar business of media and advertising is being disrupted. How?”
He answered this question by first underlining the significance of the word “seismic,” or having a great and usually disruptive or damaging effect to something. In this case, the technologies that changed, and are currently changing, the game. To illustrate this, he recapped the history of Web.
From NFTs’ cultural disruption to the rise of virtual reality or “the metaverse” (fun fact: 80% of metaverse users are below the age of 16), and all the way to the current discussion on regenerative AI, Justin showcased how humanity has adapted and expanded its abilities through these new technologies. Advertising is quick to follow these changes as well, with new ways to engage consumers and produce work.
As Justin put it, with the emergence and further expansion of Artificial Intelligence, “We are now moving faster than the speed of culture.” This leaves us all to follow in its wake, and desperately trying to catch up.
Back to his initial question, is the seismic Web dead, given all these current innovations that are changing the ways we work, consume, and create? “It’s only just starting,” Justin underlined. These changes might be daunting and frightening when we look at the rapid speed at which it has transformed our culture, but “fear is eroded by understanding and knowledge,” he stated, stressing that the only way for our humanity to conquer these tech giants is continuous learning, learning, and learning.
In fact, in an effort to understand and conquer these innovations, Justin confessed to using AI in his talk today: Grammarly for writing, ChatGPT to establish a starting point, and other platforms like Vimeo, Adobe, Prompt Smart, and more. “AI is here, [but they all look different] because we have so many options,” he noted.
He wrapped up his talk on an inspiring note: “AI is the start of an incredible journey. Remember: behind these seismic technologies is YOU!”
He also shared a personal mission to preserve the Philippines’ indigenous traditions for future generations with a fundraiser. Being married to a Filipina, and raising a half-Filipino, half-British son, he feels passionately about this project and hopes to make a change through its contributions.
