MANILA, PHILIPPINES — One of the key takeaways from DIGIMAX: IMMAP Digicon 2023 was that a good story, together with the innovative use of tech, can result in compelling content that works and sells big. Especially with shorter forms of content thriving, how can we nurture connection and loyalty in this so-called short-form era? Jacq Lim, Global Head of Communities of Nas.io/Nas Academy, answered this question on the second day of the conference at the Marriott Grand Ballroom, Newport World Resort, Pasay City.

From her journey in community-building down to the best strategies to build and nurture communities, Jacq’s talk offered an insightful perspective on the ideal online community today.

“Before we built our products, we understood our community first,” Jacq shared. NasCompany’s journey in community building spans five years. In their community meet-ups around the world, they ask thought-provoking questions, seeking to unearth cultural nuances and interesting people that represent their audience’s backgrounds, which are then featured on their channels as engaging short-form videos.

After realizing that certain social media platforms were no longer effective for keeping in touch with their communities, they created Nas.io to have easier access to grow and monetize their audience.

“Users want authenticity and connections; more and more people are looking at being part of a community they can relate with, where they can talk and express themselves freely,” she explained.

Touching on the best strategies to strengthen your relationship with your communities, Jacq advocates for creating short-form content. She argued that it is essential to be present in multiple channels, including social media, mailing lists, and group chats, to engage users effectively. The results of these strategies include deeper connections, higher loyalty, efficient customer support, and valuable customer input.

One of the final pieces of advice Jacq shared with marketers is that if you haven’t built your community yet, the best time to do so is now. “Start owning that audience, start building that relationship, (and) build your community.”
