MANILA, PHILIPPINES — adobo Magazine is pleased to announce three powerhouse individuals from Globe Telecom joining the fifth adobo Festival of Ideas. In the roster are 917 Venture’s Issa Guevarra-Cabreira, GCash’s Anthony Thomas, and Kickstart Ventures, Inc.’s Minette Navarrete who are coming to stage to discuss “Innovation For Good” this coming December 5, 2019 at the Newport Performing Arts Theater, Resorts World Manila.
This year’s theme “The Connectivity Economy”, will take a look at how the modern economy is fueled by collaboration over competition, and the role creative and innovative thinking plays in achieving business and sustainability goals. It explores the worlds created when industries and sectors intersect, converge, and collaborate. It is also set to look at how the cyclic relationships between these sectors would shape the future of the world and transform it.
Currently the Managing Partner of 917 Ventures, Issa Guevarra-Cabreira is an experienced mobile innovator with a demonstrated history of working in the telecommunications industry. Prior to Globe, she was Category Marketing Manager at Kraft Foods, Philippines (now Mondelez), looking after global brands Tang, MaxwellHouse, and Kool-Aid.
917 Ventures is the largest incubator in the Philippines and Globe’s corporate incubator arm creating businesses beyond telco services. The incubator also focuses on generating, testing and developing new business ideas that have potential to grow and scale fast as well providing solutions that can deliver indelible to the Philippines and the Southeast Asian region.
Anthony Thomas joined Mynt as its Chief Operating Officer in 2015, and was part of its founding leadership team. He was appointed President and CEO in 2017. Under his care, Mynt has reached over 7 million GCash users, making GCash leading in mobile payments through its Scan-to-Pay technology.
Since 2004, GCash has pioneered in various mobile money solutions. Customers are able to send money domestically and internationally via GCash Remit and Pera Padala. Shoppers can now purchase online and in any store worldwide via GCash Mastercard and GCash American Express Virtual Pay.
Minette Navarrete is Vice-Chairman and President of Kickstart Ventures, Inc. She is a member of the Ayala Corporation’s Innovation Advisory Council, and of Globe’s Innovation Advisory Board. She is a Senior Vice President at Globe Telecom, focusing on new business, and is a member of the board of directors of AdSpark, Globe’s digital advertising subsidiary. Minette has held CEO/COO positions in various industries, ranging from scrappy Philippine startups to iconic global companies.
Kickstart Ventures is the wholly-owned corporate venture capital firm of Globe Telecoms, investing in early- to growth-stage startups in the digital space. They currently have 41 portfolio companies in the Philippines, the United States, Canada, Israel, Indonesia, Singapore, and Malaysia.
In line with this year’s theme, Gueverra-Cabreira, Thomas and Navarrete’s entitled session ‘Innovation For Good’ will be about how Globe is leading the growth for the Philippine digital economy. With 917 Ventures incubating new business ideas and Kickstart as the leading venture firm seeking out and funding promising tech start-ups, Globe Telecom aims to create and scale new businesses that will pioneer digital companies.
