MANILA, PHILIPPINES– Women who love coffee come in all shapes, forms, and archetypes. You don’t have to be a specific age or occupy a certain profession— that rich, steaming hot cup is for everyone to enjoy. But there is a question we’d like to know the answer to, and it’s this: do women who love coffee really know what they want, and do they actively pursue it? Well, we should think so.
Meet Rosario Juan, a coffee-lover who knew what her passion was and took it one step further. As a teen, she interned for a coffee company where she started to foster dreams of opening her own café. In 2013, it became a reality with Commune Café + Bar located in Makati.

Commune Café + Bar was one of the earliest third-wave coffee shops in the city that focused on local coffee. Going against the grain of large coffee chains and Western menus, Rosario created a space for local coffee lovers to gather and learn more about Philippine coffee.
Aside from being a social media strategist, she is also a member of the International Women’s Coffee Alliance and works closely with the Philippine Coffee Board Inc., helping provide educational and livelihood support to local coffee farmers. Since the pandemic, Rosario has helped launch and operate Frontline Feeders Philippines and grow the “Coffee Home Brewers” community, now 23,000 members strong.
In celebration of Women’s Month, Rosario will be sharing her story and more in the upcoming adobo Talks “adobo She Creative Breakfast: an intimate conversation over breakfast with women in creative”, the first event under the Adobo SheCreative Network. The session will feature a lineup of outstanding women leaders who have made their mark in their creative industries in an insightful morning session on what it takes to lead their respective fields.
Rosario is set to speak at the upcoming event with her keynote session: “Pandemic Grind: Entrepreneurship, Coffee, and Corona”.
