DILIMAN, Quezon City—Applications are open for aspiring Filipino high school filmmakers and critics to join Pelikolektibo, UP Cinema’s first-ever film camp for Grades 9 to 12 students to be held from February 4 to April 30, 2022, via Zoom.

Launched along with the 18th installment of Piling Obrang Vidyo, an annual intercollegiate film festival competition hosted by the organization, Pelikolektibo is an initiative to make filmmaking and film scholarship more accessible to high school students—a response to the wish of late film critic, Alexis Tioseco.

The event is divided into two sections, Paghuhulma and Pagpupunla which will be under the mentorship of prominent and progressive filmmakers like Mao Fadul and Gale Osorio, and film critics like Richard Bolisay and Andrea Panaligan.

Paghuhulma is a development program for emerging high school film talents comprising workshop sessions on scriptwriting, directing, cinematography, production design, post-production, and producing. It is divided into two categories: the (1) Binhi Section for works-in-progress and the (2) Hubog Section for individual talents.

Pagpupunla is a special section for budding high school film critics of any medium (podcast, video essay, written, etc.) where they get to undergo a series of workshops, consultations, and critique sessions. The participants’ outputs will be featured in Kino Punch Online, the official publication of UP Cinema.

Pagpupunla is also open to college students with the same application requirements.

Application guidelines for all sections may be accessed through this link https://linktr.ee/pilingobrangvidyo

The deadline for applications is extended from December 23, 2021, to January 15, 2022.
