SORSOGON, PHILIPPINES – A filmmaker and visual artist from Sorsogon bagged the First Place in a film competition organized by Philippine Information Agency Region 5.
Robert Marticio, who is a member of the Kurit-Lagting Art Collective and the Concerned Artists of the Philippines, said that he always wanted to make a film that would give honor to women who are standing up for their rights, challenging stereotypes, breaking barriers, and serving as pioneers of change during the awarding ceremonies.
His short film entitled “Kan Sarong Banggi Ki Nana Nita” represented women as are our everyday heroes with their unwavering love to their families and society.
The Philippine Information Agency Region 5 (PIA-5) short filmmaking contest is part of the celebration of the 2022 Women’s Month with the theme, “#WomenMakeChange: Agenda ng Kababaihan Tungo sa Kaunlaran.”
The Kurit-Lagting is a collective artistic collaboration of Bicolano artists from Sorsogon, Albay, Catanduanes, Masbate and Camarines provinces with art advocacies on human rights and the environment.
The Concerned Artists of the Philippines Bicol Chapter (CAP-BIcol) is one of CAP’s newest chapters formed in October 2020, which is composed of artists, musicians, writers, filmmakers and cultural workers from various disciplines that work toward a nationalist, people-oriented art and culture. One of CAP’s founders is Lino Brocka, a national artist for Film who was born in Sorsogon.
