MANILA, PHILIPPINES – The Philippines’ biggest film production company, Star Cinema, and streaming and social entertainment platform, kumu, announced a partnership in a movie that they aim to produce this year.

This romantic-comedy movie will be directed by the blockbuster director Cathy Garcia-Molina.

“The pandemic has shown us the power of social media, ipinakita nito na kahit magkakalayo tayo, kaya nito tayong ipaglapit. That’s a big, big part of the story of the movie that we are all so excited to do,” said ABS-CBN Films managing director Olivia Lamasan.  “It is going to give rise to new talents and hopefully new loveteams.”

The movie partnership hopes to bring the audience a different kind of entertainment viewing experience.

“We’re so excited as we bring together the first-ever movie where viewers can also be part of. This is a first in Philippine movie history. Since kumu is focused on its community, we found a way to make them a part of it,” kumu senior vice president for business development Paolo Pineda said.

Direk Cathy also shared her excitement with the project that will bring a new avenue for rising stars.

“I’m so excited because I’m part of both worlds, kumu and cinema. Nag-yes ako agad, shooting na hindi sa labas, kasi takot ako lumabas. But more importantly, the reason why nagustuhan ko ang proyektong ito is because makaka-create tayo ng bagong avenue for new artists,” she said.
