From over 12,000 entries, 1,666 candidates have advanced to the finals in Ad Stars 2014. Of the finalists, there were 1,288 professional and 378 amateur entries.
Ad Stars Organizing Committee stated that 1,666 entries, which accounts for 13.2% of 12,591 submissions for preliminary screening this year, have been advanced to the finals. The committee noted said that the screening process has been difficult because there were many superior works submitted this year.
A number of outstanding works that have been awarded at world renowned festivals as Cannes and NYF were among the finalists: the Volvo Trucks campaign by Swedish advertising company, Forsman & Bodenfors Gothenburg; ‘Sound of Honda’ by Dentsu; and ‘Human Traffic Sign’ of Shanghai GM created by Lowe China was nominated for the most number in multiple categories including public service advertising, print craft, and so forth.
In addition, ‘Invisible People’ of UNHCR by ‘Cheil Worldwide’ and ‘Saddle Blossoms’ of COGOO –clean city organization- submitted by ‘TBWA HAKUHODO’ achieved honor of being finalists in over 10 categories.
With 12,591 of total number of submissions this year (domestic 2,915 and overseas 9,676), Ad Stars recorded over 10,000 entries for three consecutive years and the final competition for grand prix will be as fierce as ever.
Considering the finalists based on countries, Korea, the host country, has the largest number of entries at 514, followed by Japan (252) and China (149). According to continents, Asia has 1,481(88.9%) entries for the final contest; the European has 68 (4.1%); the Americas have 54 (3.2%); Oceania has 39 (2.3%); and Africa and the Middle East have 24 (1.4%).
Based on media, 153 entries were selected as finalists in the categories of Print, while 130 and 119 entries were categorized for Film and Outdoor respectively. In the category of Public Service Advertising that is specially being highlighted by Ad Stars, 66 entries were selected for the finals.
Entries that advanced to the finals will be screened for the grand, gold, silver and bronze prizes through two rounds of judgments that are scheduled until August 19, Tuesday. Among grand prizes in the categories of ‘Product and Service’ and ‘PSA’, the two ‘best of the best’ works will be selected for ‘Grand Prix of the Year’ and 10,000 USD will be awarded. All of finalists will be showcased during the AD STARS 2014.
Ad Stars, born in 2008, the world’s first off and online converged advertising festival, has been exerting much effort to invigorate the creativity category. The offline festival will be held on 21 August in Busan, Korea.
