SINGAPORE – Award-winning cinematographer Christopher Doyle, and Hong Kong writer-producer-director Jenny Suen took to the Capitol Theatre to present their collaborative noir fable, The White Girl, as part of the 28th Singapore International Film Festival (SGIFF). Together with them on the red carpet also include up-and-coming Hong Kong actress-model Angela Yuen and Japanese actor-musician Joe Odagiri who starred in the film, and MediaCorp artistes Romeo Tan, Pierre Png, Carrie Wong and Desmond Tan.
Set in the last fishing village in Hong Kong, The White Girl is Suen’s first feature film and one of Doyle’s rare projects in the co-director seat. Featuring three strangers who met in the dilapidated village which is faced with the threat of gentrification, the enchanting drama awes with its splendid cinematography and poetic flow, complemented by a melancholic medley of pop tunes that allure its audiences.
The 28th SGIFF is a champion of film talent and cinema of the region, and runs from 23 November to 3 December 2017, across various venues, including Marina Bay Sands, Shaw Theatres Lido, National Museum of Singapore, National Gallery Singapore, The Arts House, Filmgarde Bugis+, Objectifs and *SCAPE.
