PATTAYA – Calling all new directors, you can be fabulous! If you are a director or assistant director based in Asia and the Pacific, it’s time to send in your scripts and be part of ADFEST 2019’s Fabulous Five!
The Fabulous Five program is one of the world’s most respected platforms for kick-starting the careers of commercial directors.
“Fabulous Five is an incredible opportunity – many of the directors who have screened their films at ADFEST have gone on to achieve great things. As a result, we have expanded the program from Fabulous Four to Fabulous Five, giving more directors the chance to make their first big break,” explains Vinit Suraphongchai, Chairman of ADFEST.
Ali Brown, Partner and Executive Producer at PRETTYBIRD in Los Angeles, is leading the Fabulous Five judging process as Jury President of Film Craft and New Director at ADFEST 2019. “I love the idea of Fabulous Five as a platform to make sure emerging talent is being seen by the people who can make a difference in their careers. I also think the theme, TMRRW.TDAY, will inspire some incredible ideas. It’s the perfect theme for filmmakers to show their inventiveness and perspectives,” she says.
ELIGIBILITY
1. Entrants must be directors or assistant directors based in Asia and the Pacific, including Australia, New Zealand, and Middle East.
2. Eligible Directors must have started their career after March 2017.
3. Scripts which might offend national or religious sentiments or public taste are not eligible.
4. Previous Fabulous Four directors are not eligible for script submission.
PROCEDURE
Each entrant submits (free of charge) a script for a 5-minute short film under the theme, “TMRRW.TDAY”, the theme of ADFEST 2019. All scripts will be read by the Film Craft Lotus & New Director Lotus jury panel, who will independently vote for 5 of their favourite scripts. Scripts will be sent anonymously to all juries with no information on the identities of the directors to ensure greatest fairness and transparency.
The 5 directors whose scripts receive the highest scores will be notified by ADFEST to produce the short film of the scripts they submitted. The short films will be debut at ADFEST 2019.
ADFEST will provide return economy airfare, ground transportation, accommodation, and full delegate registration for these 5 selected directors to attend ADFEST 2019 to debut and discuss their short films at the Fabulous Five session on Thursday 21st March 2019.
IMPORTANT: Each entrant must send a signed script submission form along with the script to verify they meet the eligibility criteria.
SCHEDULE
NOW – Fri 4 Jan Entrants submit a script (in English) in word document format for a 5-minute short film of their interpretation of “TMRRW.TDAY”, theme of ADFEST 2019.
Note: Each Director/Assistant Director can only submit one script.
Mon 7 Jan- Fri 25 Jan Film Craft & New Director jury panel members vote for their favourite 5 scripts.
Wed 30 Jan – Fri 1 Feb Confirmation of the Fabulous Five New Directors.
Fri 1 Feb – Fri 8 Mar Short film production
Note: There is no production subsidy provided by ADFEST.
