SINGAPORE – BBDO and Proximity Singapore has joined forces with World Environment Day, which takes place annually on June 5, to help raise awareness of the event.
The announcement follows the launch of BBDO and Proximity Singapore’s ‘World Under Water’ campaign, which was inspired by the World Environment Day slogan ‘Raise your voice, not the sea levels’.
Created for client, CarbonStory, the site is a one-of-its-kind interactive web experience (worldunderwater.org) that uses Web GL and Google Street View to show users the catastrophic impact of global warming and melting ice caps on their very own neighbourhoods.
The campaign which has gone viral, caught the attention of the World Environment Day team after appearing on global television news and industry sites such as CNN, Sky News, BBC, Wired, Fast Company, Huffington Post and Mashable. So far the site has had 3 million page views with people spending 1.5 million minutes in total on this site. Seven days after the public launch, MEC’s Valuation Tool estimated the earned media to be USD$30 million.
“On World Environment Day, we call on everyone to take action on climate change in solidarity with the small islands. Let’s raise our voice, not the sea level.” Achim Steiner, United Nations Under-Secretary General and UNEP Executive Director said.
“We are thrilled by this invitation to collaborate with World Environment Day. ‘World Under Water’ has so far seen almost 1 million user-generated ‘under water’ locations created and shared by people from 186 countries. It’s fantastic that technology has enabled us to build such a strong emotional connection with people globally, empowering those people to take action against climate change”, commented Ronald Ng, Chief Creative Officer of BBDO and Proximity Singapore.
