TOKYO – I&S BBDO Inc., part of BBDO Worldwide and a member of Omnicom Group Inc., has appointed Kaoru Matsui as Senior Executive Director of the Media Group, starting July 1, 2014. Matsui will oversee all media planning and buying including television, radio, newspapers, magazines, OOH and digital media, as well as the PHD Japan business for Omnicom Group.
Matsui joined McCann-Erikson Hakuhodo after graduating from university, and has 29 years of experience with a strong track record in the industry mainly in media planning and buying. He was appointed as a board director for McCann Worldgroup Holdings Japan in 2009, then became CEO of Mediabrands Japan, IPG/McCann’s media arm, in 2012.
In 2008, MEDIA (now Campaign) selected him as a finalist for their media planner and buyer of the year award. Matsui was also a judge for the media category at Spikes Asia 2011.

Akira Sakurai, who has been in charge of the Media Group, will now be focusing on the Account Service Group, to further expand the client service business, which is becoming more advanced and complex.
