SYDNEY – The New South Wales (NSW) Government has launched a new tool in the ePlanning Program, a digital offering that is transforming paper-based and face-to-face transactions to an online environment.

Interactive Buildings, part of the NSW Department of Planning & Environment’s ePlanning Program, was built by Bienalto, a Wunderman company.

The Interactive Buildings tool helps homeowners and businesses understand what development standards apply and what work, such as fences, driveways and sheds can be undertaken to their properties as exempt development.

Users can click on an interactive 3D image model of a residential, commercial or industrial property and be guided through information about development standards for common building works that require no further planning approvals.

“Historically this type of information has been a challenge to find and decipher. The Interactive Buildings tool improves awareness of development standards for renovations or minor works in a clear, visual format,” said Bienalto’s managing director, Hurol Inan. “We are particularly pleased that these tools have been designed to run across multiple browsers and devices, allowing users to access them whenever it is convenient.”

The tool is one of the new online planning tools, that are transforming the planning system by reducing red tape, speeding up approval processes, increasing transparency and saving homeowners and businesses time and money.
