CANNES – A campaign that claims to be “the biggest music campaign ever made” has won the Grand Prix for Print & Publishing Lions at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. Agencia Africa based in Sao Paulo, Brazil earned the prestigious honor for ‘Tagwords’ a campaign for AB InBev brand Budweiser beer.
The case study for the campaign shows that Budweiser’s deep connection with music resonates through rock musicians over the course of rock history. As rockers over the decades including Jimi Hendrix, Paul McCartney, Ozzy Osbourne, Kid Rock, Joan Jett, Mick Jagger, and many others are shown, the case is made for the campaign.
Budweiser tracked all the words linked to several legendary moments in rock history and a cursory Google search with years, locales, other similar words, and “Budweiser” resulted in several stunning images being found.
Seven Gold Lions and 20 Silver Lions were awarded for Print & Publishing Lions. There were 21 Bronze Lions given out.
Among recipients of Gold, Swedish agency Akestam Holst from Stockholm won two for ‘IKEA pee ad’ on behalf of client IKEA.
