Breaking News: Cannes Lions 2019 Tags Mindshare as Media Network of the Year, Quibi’s Jeffrey Katzenberg as Media Person of the Year

Cannes Lions 2019 has just announced top awards for Media Network and Media Person of the Year.

Shortly after announcing AKQA São Paulo and Nike’s Grand Prix win for the Media Lions category, the stage welcomed members of global agency Mindshare as 2019’s Media Network of the Year.

Placing second runner-up was Mediacom, while Starcom placed first runner-up.

The award-giving body also named film executive Jeffrey Katzenberg as Media Person of the Year for his astounding contributions in media including his tenure as the chairman of Walt Disney Studios from 1984 to 1994, produced some of the company’s biggest hits such as The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, and The Lion King. After leaving Disney, he then went on and co-founded DreamWorks Animation with Steven Spielberg and David Geffen, which is home animated blockbuster classics such as Shrek, Madagascar, And How to Train Your Dragon.

His latest project Quibi is a short-form video platform which aims to cater to younger viewers with premium short-form content. While it hasn’t launched yet, sources say the platform has already booked $100 million in advertising sales, with advertisers including Protector & Gamble, Pepsi Co., Anheuser-Busch InBev, Walmart, Progressive, and Google.
