CANNES – Two young creatives, Carlos Quimpo and Byron Co, junior art directors from TBWA\Santiago Mangada Puno (TBWA\SMP) recently won Advertising Age’s (Ad Age) cover contest to get a trip to the 2017 Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. Their work was revealed during the AdAge cocktails at the garden of the Hotel Grand at the Croisette.

On June 12, Ad Age came out with a cover full of marinating meat, complete with rosemary, garlic, pepper, and other spices. Co and Quimpo’s idea? “Great ideas marinate.”

Festival first-timers Co and Quimpo were thrilled to reach the Festival. “Being given a chance to go to Cannes is surreal. I pinch myself everyday just to remind me that I’m actually here,” Quimpo said. Co thanked Ad Age for the opportunity, also saying “getting to experience Cannes at this age is really awesome. Not to mention, getting to witness the industry’s standard, it’s really inspiring. I’m very happy and excited to soak in all the creativity that the festival has to offer”.

Co and Quimpo’s work was also an Ad Age first. Ad Age editor and fellow Filipino, Christine Diaz, remarked, “it is the first time we had a photograph on the cover.” Previous covers were predominantly graphic illustrations.
