CANNES – A grand total of 22 metals were handed out in the Product Design Lions at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. ‘Payphone Bank’ by Grey Colombia out of Bogota for client Tigo-Une emerged as Grand Prix winner. The concept behind the campaign was to turn 13,000 cast iron payphones from the turn of the century into de facto digital banking terminals. This was done to assist Colombia’s lowest income class to be part of the country’s financial system.

Only four Gold Lions and six Silver Lions were given out by the jury, with no Gold Lion winners from Asia. However, Y&R Singapore’s ‘Tinymos – The world’s smartest astrophotography camera’ for Tinymos Private Limited and McCann Worldgroup Mumbai’s ‘Afghan Immunity Charm’ for the Ministry of Public Health, Islamic Republic of Afghanistan as the lone Asian representatives for Silver Lions. Out of the 12 Bronze Lions awarded, two were from Asia: TBWA\Hakuhodo Tokyo’s ‘Cogy Wheelchair’ for Tess Co. Ltd. from Japan and Ogilvy & Mather Mumbai’s ‘Savlon Healthy Hands Chalk Sticks’ for ITC Savlon representing India.
