The Cannes Lions Festival of Creativity is back this year and the 66th edition of the Festival comes with the first Entertainment Person of the Year Award. The award honors an individual whose creativity inspires others to produce truly compelling, meaningful and entertaining content.
Lorne Michaels, known as the creator of Saturday Night Live, is the first person to be honored as the Entertainment Person of the Year. To recognize the fundamental role of Michaels in the communications industry, he will be presented with the award during the Thursday night Awards Show on 20th June 2019.
Michaels is the executive producer of the talk show “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” and Broadway musical “Mean Girls”.
“We’re delighted to present this very special award to Lorne Michaels. An esteemed industry legend, he is an individual who perfectly illustrates the impact of great storytelling and culture, which can support the marketing and communications industry to strive for creative excellence and engage and inspire audiences across the world,” said Philip Thomas, Chairman of Cannes Lions.
He will also be speaking in the Cannes Lions Content Programme with a session entitled “In a World of Disruption, Storytelling Wins”, hosted by NBCUniversal.
The accolade is only the latest of Michael’s recognition including 16 Emmys, a Presidential Medal of Freedom, being a member of the Order of Canada, and named one of Time magazine’s list of the most influential people in the world in 2008 and 2015.
The full Cannes Lions Festival programme will run from 17 – 21 June 2019 and includes a range of inspiring sessions exploring themes around brands in culture, trust, storytelling and the value of creativity.
