What role does technology have in the world of designers? Cannes Lions 2019 Design Lions Jury President Richard Ting, who is the Global Chief Experience Officer & U.S. Creative Officer of R/GA says technology is at the forefront of creating positive change through human-centered design and artificial technology — values that the jury saw in Google Creative Lab’s Creatability Campaign.
The campaign pushes the boundaries of what technology can bring to persons with disabilities. Through collaborative work with designers, content creators, and the accessibility community, the lab was able to create ways digital and artificial tech can help the blind be empowered through drawings, and the deaf to create their own music.
The lab’s advocacy is what awarded it the coveted Grand Prix Award for Design Lions. Watch the awarding ceremony here:

Meanwhile, the jury also awarded six Gold Lions to different campaigns, including:
- “Highlight the Remarkable” by DDB Düsseldorf for Stabilo International GMBH
- “The Gun Violence History Book” and “Most Dangerous Street” by FCB Chicago for the Illinois Council Against Handgun Violence
- “The Most Challenging Pingpong Table”by TBWA/Hakuhodo, Inc. for the Japan Para Table Tennis Associatio
- “Insta Novels” by Mother New York for The NewYork Public Library “Changing the Game” by McCann New York for Microsoft.
