Cannes Lions 2019: McCann Panama’s “Straw Timeline” Campaign Awarded First Place in Environment Category– Creativity for Good Causes

The campaign Straws Timeline, created for MarViva Foundation, which uses the straw as a timeline of 500 years to evidence and compare how long it takes for the plastic straw to decompose with great development processes of world landmarks.

“Straws Timeline” made by McCann Panamá for MarViva Foundation conquered the first place in the category of Environment, where campaigns about raising awareness relating to environmental issues such as plastic pollution and global warming are found. The recognition of ACT Responsible Tribute 2019, in a ceremony during Cannes Lions on 20th June, where the creativity for good causes is awarded.

“We are very honored that our pieces have won the first place in Environment in the ACT exhibition in Cannes” said Omar Polo, Creative Director of McCann Panamá. “In a global context, where awareness is increasingly being created about the damage of the plastic straw in the environment, the issue of the carrizos, pitillos, pajitas, popotes, cañitas, bombillas, the disposable straws also started to become stronger in Panamá, where it’s under an intense discussion, creating the perfect opportunity for an awareness campaign”.

Straws Timeline was selected by ACT Responsible Tribute in Cannes which recognizes the agencies because of their contribution on promoting social and environmental causes. The winners, in this case, were chosen by popular vote- Since 2004, ACT Responsible organizes a public voting for exhibition visitors to choose their favorite campaigns.
