SEOUL – Cheil Worldwide, the marketing solutions company headquartered in South Korea, produced D&AD’s first Foreman Jury from Korea. Wain Choi, Senior Vice President and head of creative division, chaired Mobile Marketing category as the Foreman of the Jury at D&AD 2016.
“I consider D&AD to be the toughest of all award shows, and it was a great honor to be Foreman Jury,” said Wain Choi. “Our works are constantly judged by number of likes and viewers, but it should be more than that. If the work moves people and comes from the human truth and insight, then the work is worthy of D&AD pencils. The creativity should have honesty and a great idea that inspires people to follow.”
Wain’s extensive jury duties include CLIO, New York Festivals, and many other award shows. In September 2015, Wain was named as Jury President to chair Digital & Mobile categories at Spikes Asia, one of the most prominent award shows in the Asia-Pacific region. With his appointment as D&AD Awards Foreman Jury, Wain has earned the honor of leading jury members at international creative awards for two consecutive years.
The success of the Look at Me campaign is considered as one of the reasons that international creative awards chose Wain as their judge. As part of Samsung’s overarching ‘Launching People’ campaign, a mobile app was developed to help autistic children better interact with other people. The campaign swept around 30 awards at international award shows recognized by global creative accolades including Gold at Cannes Lions, Gold at One Show and Grand Prix at Spikes Asia, and also three pencils at D&AD Awards 2015.
In the meantime, Nina Taylor, Creative Director at iris Worldwide, an arm of Cheil Global Network, was Digital Marketing Jury for this year’s D&AD Awards.
Founded in 1962, D&AD exists to stimulate, enable and award creative excellence in design and advertising. Following last year’s 22,000 entries across 85 countries, this year saw around 26,000 entries competing in 27 categories. D&AD Awards 2016 Ceremony will be held on May 19 at Battersea Evolution in London, UK.
