CLIO Awards 2017 releases shortlists, Aussie agencies with most nods in APAC region

The Clio Awards has announced the first wave of shortlisted entries for this year’s event. In the Asia-Pacific region, Australian agencies gained the highest number of shortlist mentions at 24. Japan followed with 13 shortlists, while Thailand tallied 11. 

Released shortlists for the first wave are Brand Partnerships & Collaborations, Branded Content, Branded Entertainment, Digital/Mobile, Digital/Mobile Technique, Direct, Events/Experiential, Film, Innovation, Integrated Campaign, Out-of-Home, Print, Print Technique, and Social Media.

Clemenger BBDO Melbourne led the Aussie pack with 10 shortlist nods and are now looking to gain more metals for the already Cannes Grand Prix-winning campaign, ‘Meet Graham’. Colenso BBDO added six entries, with four coming from their ‘The Child Replacement Programme’ for Pedigree.

TBWA\Hakuhodo gained five shortlists with their ‘Green Light Run’ campaign for Adidas, while Hakuhodo Inc. contributed three entries to the Japanese count with ‘Gravity Cat’. Meanwhile, Dentsu Inc. also notched three slots, while Hakuhodo Kettle and McCann Tokyo each had one shortlisted entry. 

Thailand’s first Cannes Grand Prix-winning campaign, ‘The Unusual Football Field’ by CJ Worx for AP Thailand, is up for another metal run at the Clio Awards, with four shortlist mentions. TBWA (Thailand) Co., Ltd.’s ‘Loving Bangkok Night’ for McDonald’s has the next most number of shortlisted entries, gaining three nods. Meanwhile, Ogilvy Group Thailand snagged two slots, with McCann Worldgroup and BBDO Bangkok each getting one shortlisted entry. 

Another Cannes Lion winner, ‘The Immunity Charm’ by McCann Worldgroup India also made it to the Clio Awards shortlists for the Innovation, Direct, and Events/Experiential categories. 

The Philippines gained four shortlisted entries courtesy of Publicis JimenezBasic with their “Mask” campaign for Globe Telecom and Disney and TBWA\Santiago Mangada Puno with ‘Correcting History’ for CARMMA. TBWA\Santiago Mangada Puno tallied three mentions (two under the Direct category and one under Social Media), while Publicis JimenezBasic added one (under the Brand Partnerships & Collaborations category) to the count.

The finalists for Hall of Fame, Audio, Audio Technique, Brand Design, Film Technique, and Public Relations will be released on September 5, 2017.
