SINGAPORE – D&AD Pop Up is coming to Singapore. After successful events in Paris, Hamburg and Tokyo, D&AD are set to show the breadth of creative excellence that they have to offer by hosting a series of events in the city.
Give your brain a workout with a choice of two Professional Development training sessions, celebrate the beauty of film with a lecture from Emmy-nominated David Gelb and immerse yourself in the world of Branded Content with a showcase and talk from FINCH’s Michael Hilliard.
David Gelb has been called “one of the most transformative storytellers working today” by WIRED and has directed non-fiction and fiction alike, including the critically acclaimed documentary Jiro Dreams of Sushi. David was nominated for an Emmy for best directing and best non-fiction series for Chef’s Table. He was also nominated for a Grammy for producing the Steve Aoki documentary, I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead. Recently, David has been exploring virtual reality, starting with the first ever VR doc series “The Possible”, a collaboration with VR guru Chris Milk and available on his VR app “Within”. “The Possible” tells the stories of incredible technological breakthroughs from the point of view of the inventors, allowing you to experience flight on a hoverboard, to walk with robots, fly to space in a balloon, and to rip across the Utah salt flats at 400 miles per hour. He will be talking about all things film as well as looking to the future of technology and film.
Michael Hillard is an executive producer at FINCH. His television series credits include Chef’s Table, ICONOCLASTS and the Beastie Boys’ AWESOME I F#&CKING SHOT THAT. His work with a range of award-winning actors, musicians, artists and sports figures blends pop culture with documentary and television. His work has been recognized by the Cannes Lions, the ONE show, the Directors Guild of America, and the Emmys, and has become part of the permanent collection at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. As part of his showcase for D&AD Pop Up, he will be referencing great works of branded content and entertainment like “Dumb Ways to Die (2013)” and “The Displaced (2016)” as well as many other D&AD Branded Content and Entertainment winners.

The startup world offers the creative industry an excellent opportunity to embrace new technologies and approaches and continue to push the envelope of creativity. On the surface it’s the perfect space for the creative industry to flex their muscle and bring creativity to new businesses that are built on unique, game changing ideas. But, the models that work for traditional brands and agencies aren’t necessarily going to translate to these new clients.
