KUALA LUMPUR – The magnitude of the earthquake that struck Nepal on April 25 was 7.8Mw. That’s almost as devastating as detonating 6,000,000 tons of TNT. More than 8,000 people were killed and twice as many injured. Hundreds of thousands were made homeless.

Mercy Malaysia, a volunteer non-profit organization flew in to provide medical relief. Harmandar Singh (Ham), executive committee member of Mercy Malaysia was there to document the disaster. He was on his way back to Kuala Lumpur when a second earthquake of 7.3Mw struck Nepal on May 12. Hundreds more perished and thousands were injured.

Ham made a call to Ted Lim, Chief Creative Officer of Dentsu Asia Pacific to help Mercy Malaysia raise funds to continue their medical relief efforts in Nepal.

Together with Dick van Motman, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Dentsu Aegis Network South-East Asia, Ted reached out to Dentsu Utama in Kuala Lumpur, Astro, Rewind Networks and VHQ Post-Production to help get the idea off the ground. Media Prima, Fuse, AddAudio, voice-over talents and photographer Danny Wong who was at the scene of the earthquake also pitched in. Working from Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Jakarta, the team put together a public service film in just one week.

The 30-second film tells Malaysians they can help turn things around for Nepal if they turned 7.8Mw, the magnitude of the first earthquake that struck Nepal into RM7.8, the Malaysian Ringgit. The film will air on Astro, HITS TV, TV3 and can be viewed online at on Facebook and Youtube.
