MANILA – Opening the Day 2 of Digicon is Elaine Uy-Casipit, Digital Media Head of ABS-CBN, where she talked about “Leveraging OTT in Media & Entertainment”. During her session, Casipit also announces the new iWant, a free online streaming services, featuring Filipino films, series, and music which will be coming next month.
Casipit was followed by a Fireside Chat on “Content for New Generation” with Hosi Simon, CEO of Vice Media. “Don’t ever lie to your audience. Don’t pretend your product us something that it isn’t. Young people are smart enough. We want to make people think,” Simon opined.
Meanwhile, attendees listened to an inspiring talk by Samuel Burke, Business and Technology News Correspondent in CNN, as he talked about “Dispatches from the Frontlines of Technology”. He said to never be afraid to fail, citing Israel’s mentality of celebrating failures, for failures bring you closer to success.
“You have to change your perspective in Storytelling. You aren’t telling the story. You’re a part of it,” said Goerge Royeca, CEO of G5, as he took the stage to discuss the “Mainstream Immersive Storytelling-Hype vs. Reality.”
In the NODE Track, Ben Poole, Managing Director APAC of Reprise, shared how to create winning experiences in a reinvented landscape by adapting the Japanese concept of “kaizen” which refers to creating continuous improvement through small, positive adjustments. He also debunked the belief of benchmarking performance against a competitor, citing that loved and growing brands that deliver winning experiences such as Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Amazon, and Google, should be the benchmarks.
Grab’s Brian Cu talked in the ARENA Track, where he shared “What’s the next stop for GRAB.” Cu discussed the next stops for GRAB – from offering rides, to food delivery and online shopping. “We don’t want to be everything for everyone. We just want to be the app that people use on a daily basis,” he remarked.
Meanwhile, in the DOCK Track, Regional Manager APAC of Waze Krishna Kumar discussed how Waze try to solve the online and offline gap in his session, “Marketing & Mobility.” Also in the DOCK Track, CEO of Culture Group Michael Patent talked about “Less Content, More Context: The role of experience + culture in contextual commerce”, where he shared how we’re moving from the age of FOMO to EON (Expectation of Now).
Delegates were treated to a fun session by Facebook’s Alex de Leon and Cams Sta. Ana in the LABS Track. The session, entitled, “The Rise of Stories + IG Story School” taught the delegates on how to up their IG Storytelling game.
Closing the Day 2 of Digicon is Angeline Tham, CEO of Angkas, and her session, “The Real Impact of Technological Disruption in Emerging Economies.” “Disruption is a buzzword but it’s not a bad word. It’s a challenge,” Tham said on her talk. Tham also shared that Angkas is proud of its well-trained bikers with proper safety gear and insurance.
