Filmakademie BW, SVA, BYU and MICA Among Top Winners at The One Club’s Young Ones Student Awards

NEW YORK — The One Club for Creativity’s Young Ones Education Festival concluded on May 8th with a number of big winners in its dynamic Young Ones Student Awards competition, celebrated as part of the organization’s Creative Week in New York.

The Young Ones Student Awards is the largest global program of its type, consisting of three components designed to help young creatives around the world hone their skills and get their work and portfolios judged by the industry’s top creative professionals.  This includes the Young Ones ADC, where students submit work to win ADC Cubes; Young Ones Briefs, where creative teams compete to win a Pencil for their Client, Social and/or Design briefs; and Young Ones Portfolio, recognizing students who have the most impressive books of their work.

Young Ones Student Awards: Brief Awards (7 Gold, 11 Silver, 13 Bronze, 82 Merit)

The One Club held three brief competitions this year. The Young Ones Client Brief, in conjunction with Johannes Leonardo, New York, was for Canadian online home and auto insurance firm Sonnet Insurance. The Young Ones Social Brief, in coordination with FCB Health, New York, concerned opioid overdose awareness and prevention.  The Young Ones Design Brief, working with non-profit peace organization PartnersGlobal and the United Nations’ TOGETHER, asked students to create a mass transit poster for global distribution that helps promote a positive image and acceptance of refugees and migrants.

Young Ones Student Awards: Portfolio Award

The Young Ones Portfolio Awards, this year working with Serviceplan, is a unique platform for students to showcase their body of work, giving young creatives more opportunities to stand out and get hired.  Later this year, one young winner in the portfolio competition will have a chance to interview for a six-month paid internship at Disney’s Yellow Shoes, the in-house agency for The Walt Disney Company in Los Angeles.

The evening was hosted by noted art director, pixel designer and singer Momo Pixel.  In addition to creating Momoland, an annual interactive pixel-art experience, she worked this year with Wieden+Kennedy to launch Hair Nah, a video game to keep people from touching the hair of black women.

The Young Ones Education Festival took place during The One Club for Creativity’s Creative Week, May 7-11, 2018 in New York City.  The Young Ones Educational Festival included the Young Ones Student Awards, portfolio reviews, client pitch competition, Educators Summit and other events.  The festival serves as a launching pad for many students’ careers, as well as a great opportunity to mingle with fellow students and professionals from all over the world.

The preeminent festival showcasing the intersection of advertising, innovation and creative thinking, Creative Week also includes two nights of the prestigious One Show Awards, the ADC 97th Annual Awards, inspiring sessions with some of the biggest names in the industry at the Creative Summit, and the exclusive Executive Creative Summit, open to a limited number of top-level leaders (founders, CCOs and managing partners).
