KUALA LUMPUR – GO Communications won a series of awards at the recent Campaign PR Week awards night held on June 26 at the JW Marriott Hotel in Hong Kong.

The winner of the Gold Award for PR Professional of the Year 2014 was GO Communications CEO Michael de Kretser. This was the first time in the history of Campaign PR Awards that a Malaysian PR agency and PR practitioner has won this prestigious award.

The other awards won by GO Communications included Winner Product Brand Development of the Year 2014 (Thistle’s Kids In Charge) plus Excellence Awards for South East Asia PR Campaign of the Year 2014 (Thistle’s Kids In Charge) and Consumer Launch Campaign of the Year 2014 (Thistle Kids In Charge). In addition, GO Communications was one of the three nominations for the Asia Pacific PR Consultancy of the Year 2014.

The Thistle Kids In Charge campaign was a nationwide contest to select ten kids between eight and fourteen years to become Board Members for the Thistle Hotel Port Dickson for one year.

Once a month the ten kids attended Board Meetings to discuss what they would like the hotel to adopt to make it family friendly.

The ideas accepted by the Board were then implemented by the hotel.

Following the campaign the Thistle Hotel in Port Dickson was ranked number one in Malaysia by Trip Advisor and occupancy rose to over 90%.

The winning kid with the best contribution voted by the Board won a prize with his family to a Thistle Hotel in London for a week.

GO Communications CEO Michael de Kretser said, “The award winning campaign came about from a creative workshop by GO colleagues working on the account.”

De Kretser said, “Coming up with creative ideas is a bedrock of GO Communications strategy in the new world of PR communications.  He added, “Good ideas and great implementation must result in bottom line results”.  “It’s a great acknowledgement when a Malaysian PR agency creates and implements a world’s first campaign”.

De Kretser said, “Winning the CEO award for Asia Pacific is a real feather in the cap for Malaysian PR and Communications.  “This is a great example that Malaysian PR practitioners can compete today with any country in the Asia Pacific”.
