SOUTHEAST ASIA, 29 January 2019 — Singapore and the Philippines concluded the year on a positive note with double-digit growth in demand for advertising and marketing executives in December, according to the data provided by the Monster Employment Index, released by Monster.com today.

The Monster Employment Index (MEI) is a monthly gauge of online hiring activity across Singapore, Malaysia and the Philippines, tracked by Monster.com. It comprises data of overall hiring activity in each country, as well as specific data in the marketing and advertising sector.

Leading Southeast Asia in terms of an increased appetite for marketing talent was Singapore at 15% year-on-year growth for December. Not far behind was the Philippines at 13% annual growth. However, the country had performed better during November, reporting a 21% annual growth for the same month. Singapore remained flat, recording 15% year-on- year growth for both November and December.

The Philippines displayed a sizeable increase in the availability of marketing and communication roles in December, clocking in 16% year-on-year growth. The same could not be said for Malaysia, who reported an annual decline of 4% in marketing roles for the month.

Singapore performed decently in terms of advertising roles, with 8% annual growth for December.

Marketing & Communication Roles

“Marketers are looking to entice their consumers by exploring fresh and novel ways of reaching out to them. While social and digital marketing is still at the top of the priority list, there is an increasing number of brands experimenting with live events and event marketing in a bid to interact in a real-life, face-to-face setting. Fostering close relationships with customers has always been important to companies, and leveraging new marketing tools can help bring the two entities closer. As a result, brands are on the hunt for marketing executives who have the necessary skill-set to help them achieve this goal,” said Abhijeet Mukherjee, CEO of Monster.com – APAC and Middle East.

“Marketing and advertising executives looking to get hired must be well-versed in all things tech and digital. Companies, on the other hand, must do their part to seek out and secure new talent with attractive offers and incentives.”
