Singapore is ahead of its Southeast Asian peers in terms of annual demand for marketing and advertising professionals, kick-starting the year with double-digit growth for both January and February at 16% and 15% respectively. This is according to data provided by the Monster Employment Index, released by Monster.com today.
The Monster Employment Index (MEI) is a monthly gauge of online hiring activity across Singapore, Malaysia and the Philippines, tracked by Monster.com. It comprises data of overall hiring activity in each country, as well as specific data in the marketing and advertising sector.
The Philippines followed closely behind, with annual growth of 10% for January. However, it experienced a decline in February, reporting only 6% year-on-year growth for the month.
Malaysia’s demand for marketing professionals paled in comparison to its peers, recording a decline of 7% and 9% respectively, for both months.

In terms of availability of advertising roles, Singapore remained stagnant at 8% throughout January and February.
The Philippines displayed growth in abundance of marketing roles in January, reporting 11% annual growth for the month. February saw the Philippines record only 8% year-on-year growth.
Malaysia was stagnant for both January and February, reporting an annual decline of 3% for both months.
