BANGKOK – Cartoon characters, colourful graphics and an eclectic palette of instruments feature in the ADFEST 2014 animation, unveiled today by Kantana Animation Studios (Bangkok) and Nylon Studios (Sydney/New York).
Their animation will feature prominently at ADFEST from March 6 to 8, 2014, and is a playful expression of this year’s theme, ‘Co-Create the Future’. It also brings the ADFEST 2014 logo to life, which was designed by Santosh Padhi of Taproot India.
Sudapan Singthong, Managing Director at Kantana Animation Studios in Bangkok, said the film explores the art of animation by using past and present techniques: “We decided to create these colorful drawings in 2D animation tied-up with a variety of graphics to reflect this year’s theme.”
Mark Beckhaus, Director of Music Nylon Studios, says the music came first, followed by the visuals: “We approached this project in a more traditional style of creating the music first and then handing it over to Kantana to create their images, much in the way of a music video. From there we received the fabulous pictures from Kantana and did some minor massaging to really make the music ‘sing’ with the visuals. All-in-all it was a very seamless process and creatively very satisfying for our team.”
“We thought a lot about this idea of co-creation and the future and wondered how that would sound. We decided upon a very eclectic palette of instruments combined with abstract vocal samples that almost sound like a foreign language. We like to think it feels both cinematic in scale yet subtly nuanced to highlight the personal and emotive elements of the event’s theme,” said Beckhaus.
Beckhaus is also presenting a Speaker Session at ADFEST 2014 called ‘Sticky Music’, which takes place on Friday, March 7 at 2:30pm.
