Radyo Inquirer 990 hits the airwaves on September 9

PHILIPPINES, SEPTEMBER 6, 2010 – The Philippine Daily Inquirer officially launches Radyo Inquirer on September 9 after three months of test broadcasting online. The station, 990kHz on the AM band, started broadcasting on terrestrial radio in mid-August. With two recognizable voices, Ramon Tulfo and Jay Sonza, as its big-name anchors, Radyo Inquirer hopes to bring the broadsheet’s brand of reporting to a new medium. Programming consists of news and current affairs programs,as well as music and listener-centric shows.

Ramon Tulfo, Inquirer’s most-sued columnist known for his colorful language, returns to radio after a four-year hiatus. Tulfo hosts two weekday programs, "Isumbong Mo Kay Tulfo" and "Target Ni Tulfo". The tandem of former colleagues Jay Sonza and Cecille Lardizabal, takes to the morning airwaves.

In yesterday’s Sunday Inquirer magazine, Radyo Inquirer President Paolo Prieto revealed the 10-year gestation period of the radio equivalent of the daily paper and said that he thought that Inquirer’s content was "very compatible with AM".  After acquiring DZTR, since renamed DZIQ, Prieto brought in radio veteran Ciro Songco to be station manager.

In a message to industry friends, Inquirer VP for Advertising Pepito Olarte  said: "Radyo Inquirer also taps into a deep well of talented sources: the broadsheet’s hardworking team of more than 100 reporters and correspondents in 4 bureaus nationwide constantly feeding the most relevant and up-to-the-minute news."

Aside from this, Radyo Inquirer has a dedicated news team and an integrated news team it shares with the leading news website Inquirer.net.

According to John Amon, CEO & CCO of AMP/amon+maneze, the independent agency was assigned the Radyo Inquirer DZIQ 990AM account "after an extensive and much applauded creative presentation". The "Origami" print ad (above) kicked off the campaign, which includes collateral and OOH materials. More ads are set to breaks in the weeks to come.
