HONG KONG – Omnicom Media Group has promoted Deric Wong to the role of Group CEO for its agencies in Hong Kong. Previously the CEO of OMD Hong Kong, Wong will now be responsible for both OMD and PHD, along with Omnicom Media Group Hong Kong’s specialist business units operating across Search, Content, Programmatic and Analytics. The promotion is based on Wong’s significant contributions to the Group over the past decade.
Wong joined Omnicom Media Group in 2008 at PHD Hong Kong and has risen through the ranks in various roles within the Group ever since. He returned to Hong Kong in September 2016 as CEO of OMD after serving as Managing Partner, Strategy of OMD China and Omnicom Media Group Hong Kong for over two years.
As CEO of OMD Hong Kong, Wong has had a major impact on the business, having restructured the agency and built up its talent pool and performance capabilities in marketing technology. He has also led the agency to secure several new client partnerships with Hong Kong’s top advertisers, including Dairy Farm’s supermarket chains, MGM Cotai and SmarTone, as well as retain Wyeth Nutrition Hong Kong – an account that OMD has held for eight years. Under Wong’s leadership, OMD has been named ‘Best Marketing Partner’ at the HKMA/TVB Awards and won multiple Agency of the Year titles, including ‘Media’, ‘Integrated Marketing’, ‘Digital’ and ‘Programmatic Agency of the Year’.
Commenting on the promotion, Doug Pearce, Omnicom Media Group Greater China CEO, said: “We are thrilled to have Deric in this role, it is well-deserved promotion and it marks a return of Group leadership in the Hong Kong market. We now have a very strong Group Management Team in Hong Kong and with Deric’s leadership, we are well placed to provide our clients with the highest level of future-facing resources and capabilities in the market.”
Tony Harradine, CEO of Omnicom Media Group Asia Pacific, said: “Deric has established a solid track record of continued performance over the past decade. As CEO of OMD Hong Kong, he has positioned the agency at the forefront of the digital frontier – a feat that has resulted in numerous accolades being bestowed on both himself and the agency. In this new role, he will continue to strengthen our agencies’ offerings, ensuring that our clients are equipped with cutting-edge expertise and data-driven strategies on their journeys of digital transformation.”
Wong added: “Hong Kong is an important market in the APAC region, one that is constantly evolving to provide fresh opportunities for businesses. I’m very honored to take on these expanded responsibilities to further build our credentials, grow our agencies’ talent and power our clients’ business growth in Hong Kong.”
