BERLIN – The Epica Awards on Tuesday awarded a gold medal for animation to a Renault ad by Publicis Conseil written by Fabrice Dubois, one of the victims of last Friday’s terrorist attacks in Paris.
The Renault spot, titled “Go Anywhere, Go Everywhere,” took home one of two gold awards in the animation category – a cell-shaded spot featuring the new Renault Twingo with the Beck song “Sexx Laws” playing on the background.
The senior copy writer had worked at Publicis Conseil for close to 13 years. The company mourned his passing in a Facebook post this Sunday.
He was one of three ad men that died in the recent attacks in Paris that claimed a total of 129 lives. Yannick Minvielle, a creative director at RED/Publicis was reportedly killed at the Bataclan concert hall, as was François-Xavier Prévost, a former Havas Media employee who joined LocalMedia in April.
Reports say judges were not aware of the passing of Dubois during the voting, meaning that the gold award was not out of an act of sympathy from the distinguished panel. Founded 29 years ago, Epica is the only worldwide creative award judged by journalists from the marketing and communications press.
