NEW YORK – R/GA is pleased to announce that Jess Greenwood has been appointed Global Chief Marketing Officer. Formerly the agency’s US co-Chief Strategy Officer, Jess will be responsible for overseeing the company’s growth team and marketing department, and architecting the company’s products and positioning.
“We couldn’t be happier that Jess is taking on this role,” commented Sean Lyons, R/GA Global CEO. “Over her time with R/GA, she’s done a lot to shape how we show up in the world. She’s strategic, creative and passionate: the perfect combination of skills to rewrite the description of what a CMO in our industry does.”
“Over the eight-ish years I’ve been at R/GA, I’ve taken on lots of differently shaped challenges, and am excited for this new one,” said Greenwood. “Marketing isn’t just communications – it’s a way to use external forces to define what a company is, and does. The R/GA brand is so different and powerful, and the talent within it frighteningly strong. I look forward to continuing our long tradition of skating to where the puck is going.”
Tom Morton will continue to lead the integrated strategy practice as US Chief Strategy Officer. His team comprises over 100 brand, connections and media strategists across R/GA’s six US offices.
As co-CSO, Jess worked with Tom to create R/GA’s “Strat Pack,” an industry-leading approach that powers transformative work for established brands like Nike, Equinox and Samsung, as well as new economy leaders like Ally and Slack.
She has collaborated on award-winning work, including Nike’s Apple Watch, and recently, the A/R Jordan connected commerce experience with partners Snapchat and Darkstore. In the last year, she’s helped launch /make, Samsung’s editorial platform for next-generation creators and overseen the transformation of Samsung’s Galaxy Note from a productivity-focused phone to a gaming one, and its award-winning launch of the “Galaxy Skin” in Fortnite.
She joined R/GA as director of business strategy in February of 2012, after eight years as managing editor of Contagious Magazine, and founder of the Contagious consultancy, Insider. Following a stint in-house on Google’s creative partnerships team, she returned to R/GA in 2014 as VP, Content and Partnerships, before taking the co-CSO role in 2018.
Jess is a fierce advocate for more diversity in leadership positions, and leads WomanUp, R/GA’s internal network designed to help all women within the network define and realize success on their own terms. She’s also a founding member of Papel e Caneta, a global collaboration between creatives across the world to solve some of society’s toughest problems, and makes clothes in her spare time. Jess was honored to be named one of AdAge’s 2019 Women to Watch.
