PHILIPPINES – JUNE 2011 – Pia Roxas-Ocampo, Proximity Philippines creative director, has left the agency. Asked where she is going, she replied, "Just the gym. Prioritizing my health and fitness right now. I just want to take a step back from the industry and figure out what I really want to do. I’m going on my 10th year in the industry and it just felt like the right time to have a think."
Roxas-Ocampo got her start as a copywriter at OgilvyOne and Ogilvy, moving on to JWT Manila and Bangkok as senior copywriter before joining Proximity Philippines as head of copy and head of creatives. As creative director at BBDO Guerrero/Proximity Philippines, she headed Digital Creative. Her work has won recognition at ADFEST, Asia Pacific Effies, Caples, Clio, Echo, One Show and Cannes Lions.
"Pia has made a fantastic contribution to the agency," said David Guerrero, BBDO Guerrero/Proximity Philippines chairman ang chief creative officer. "We are all sad to see her go, wish her the very best and plan to stay in touch. Meanwhile we have promoted Corey Cruz to ACD and squad leader with special responsibility for digital."
Cruz and fellow ACD Meggy de Guzman will lead an integrated team of art directors, copywriters, web designers and community managers in creating campaigns for some of the agency’s largest clients.
As an art director, Cruz has handled digital campaigns for clients such as Pepsi, Aboitiz Power and Dole in her three years at BBDO Guerrero and Proximity Philippines. She drew the entire Proximity Philippines website by hand and was part of the recent Sky Broadband “Life at 5Mbps” campaign.
A molecular biologist and Flash programmer in a former life, "Advertising as the science of mind-control” was the topic of her recent TEDxManila talk.
