Pride of Lionesses: Four Filipinas to judge at Spikes Asia 2018

Four Filipinas from four different communication fields will sit as esteemed judges on four different categories of the Spikes Asia 2018 creative awards. 

McDonald’s Philippines Managing Director Margot Torres sits on the Creative Effectiveness jury, while China-based Carol Ong, President of Bebebalm, suits up for the Healthcare jury. McCann Worldgroup Philippines Associate Creative Director Fran Palines joins the Outdoor and Radio & Audio jury, while Greenbulb Communications CEO Leah Caringal serves on the PR jury. 

These women will be judging hundreds of entries from across Asia and the Pacific to determine the winners of the coveted Spikes trophies at the end of the Spikes Asia Festival of Creativity happening from September 26 to 28, 2018 in Singapore.

Margot Torres, Managing Director, McDonald’s Philippines (Creative Effectiveness)

Margot B. Torres is Managing Director of McDonald’s Philippines with over 30 years of Marketing experience, 15 with the golden arches. Recently, she received Campaign Asia’s Women Leading Change award and was one of the recipients of PANA’s Gawad Panata for her marketing leadership and industry contribution.

In 2010, she received the Agora Award for Excellence in Marketing Management from the Philippine Marketing Association. She was also 1st Tambuli Chief Marketing Officer of the Year from the University of Asia & the Pacific in 2011.

She has served as the President of Philippine Association of National Advertisers (PANA) and Internet and Mobile Marketing Association of the Philippines (IMMAP). She was Jury Chair of the Festival of Media Asia in 2017 and served as Asian Marketing Effectiveness Jury in 2013, as well as Spikes Asia Jury for Creative Effectiveness in 2015. She was also Professor in the McDonald’s Worldwide Hamburger Marketing University from 2013-2016.

Carol Ong, President, Bebebalm, China (Healthcare)

Carol Ong has been named in the ‘Hottest Creatives in Asia’ for now close to a decade. Her work has been recognised in the Top 100 Ads in the World by the Gunn Report, at Cannes Lions, Webby Awards, One Show, D&AD, Clio, Spikes Asia, Adfest Lotus, Effies, as well as China and the Philippine shows. She believes in creativity that solves problems.

Carol is the President of Bebebalm, a start-up focused on product innovations on skin health, family first aid and safety. Prior, she’s the Deputy Executive Creative Director at McCann Health Shanghai. She’s helped start up BBH in China. She was with BBDO-Guerrero Ortega, the first Philippine agency to get in the World’s Top 50 creative agencies. ACE Saatchi & Saatchi and Publicis Basic were also her playgrounds.

Outside of advertising, she’s helped create a festival, the “Bacolaodiat”. It is now an official holiday in the Philippines.

Leah Caringal, CEO, Greenbulb Communications (PR)

Leah Caringal leads the award-winning Greenbulb Communications team based in Manila, Philippines. She is an experienced business leader having set up and managed her own PR agency, Greenbulb PR and branding agency Brand_It. She brings with her almost 20 years of experience in Public Relations and Marketing Communications leading campaigns and assignments providing government, public and private institutions on corporate positioning, developing and strategising PR campaigns, CSR programs, product and campaign launches, issues management and media relations. Clients are from government, consumer, FMCG, financial and technology industries.

Greenbulb Communications recently won a Gold Quill Award of Merit for Community Relations for P&G Philippines’ Linis Lusog Program, several Stevies Awards, Marketing PR Award, Anvil and Tambuli.

Prior to setting up Greenbulb PR, she joined Burson Marsteller in Singapore, handling the an account for the region.

Leah Caringal finished Communications at the Ateneo de Manila University.

She is an active volunteer in I Can Serve, a breast cancer survivor support group that promotes early breast cancer detection by espousing education on women’s health issues, especially at the grass roots.

Fran Palines, Associate Creative Director, McCann Worldgroup Philippines (Outdoor, Radio & Audio)

Fran started as a copywriter at BBDO Guerrero in 2010, where she learned everything there is to love about advertising. In 2016, she joined McCann Worldgroup Philippines, having taken a three-year break to work directly with brands she supports – which included a bookstore that paid her in fantasy trilogies.

In her first year back at McCann Worldgroup Philippines, she went on to create the Philippine’s most awarded radio campaign for bookstore chain Fully Booked. The spot picked up a Gold Lion at Cannes, and metals at shows like Asian Adfest, London International, New York Festivals, Clio, Spikes Asia, AdStars, AWARD Australia, and The One Show.

This was on top of another Silver Lion she won for Nestle. Her work has been recognised both locally and internationally and she’s had the privilege of working on accounts like Johnson & Johnson, Nestle KitKat, Coca-Cola, and Philippine Airlines.
