ASIA-PACIFIC – MUMBAI, INDIA/HONG KONG, APRIL 7, 2011 – CA Media announced today the appointment of Rajesh Kamat as CEO of CA Media, India. Kamat, most recently the COO of Viacom18 Group and CEO of COLORS, a leading Hindi general entertainment channel, will join CA Media in July 2011.

CA Media is a startup company of Peter Chernin’s U.S.-based The Chernin Group, launched in November 2010. CA Media is focused on building and investing in media businesses in India, China, and throughout Asia.

Kamat will lead CA Media in establishing a diversified Indian media and entertainment company. CA Media will develop Indian operations principally in television and film content; family entertainment; digital media; sports and leisure; and education. Kamat will report to Paul Aiello, CEO of CA Media.

“Rajesh Kamat is one of the most talented executives in India, and he has consistently proven his ability to take risks, innovate, and create significant value,” Aiello said.

“Rajesh has been a driving force for innovation in the India media space,” added Chernin, chairman of CA Media. “India is one of the most exciting stories in global media today and we’re privileged to have him join our team.”

“My assignment to build CA Media’s Indian business provides me with a unique opportunity to capitalize on such trends as an entrepreneur, in partnership with global industry leaders like Peter and Paul,” said Kamat.

In his three years at Viacom18, Kamat has been instrumental in launching COLORS and rapidly taking it to a preeminent position in the Hindi general entertainment category, both in India and in more than 30 other countries where it is distributed. As COO of Viacom18, Kamat identified incremental growth areas for the overall group and last year formed Sun18, a pan-India television distribution joint venture.

Prior to joining Viacom18, Kamat was Managing Director of Endemol India, where he established the firm as one of India’s leading production houses. Previously, Kamat held positions with Coca-Cola and STAR India, of which Aiello was formerly CEO.
