SINGAPORE — Asia’s much-awaited festival of creativity, Spikes Asia 2019, has finally announced entries that are moving onto the next round. Apart from carefully selected rubrics that help panels of judges choose a round of finalists and then winners, submissions are also judged based on the overall theme of this year’s festival, which is Asia Rising — a reflection on the transformation and innovation the region is going through.

While winners will be announced on the last leg of the festival, here are the entries for Outdoor, Radio & Audio, Print & Publishing, Print & Outdoor, Craft, and PR Spikes that are moving onto final deliberations:

Outdoor

Sponsor

Most awarded in this round’s Outdoor Spikes judging is Ogilvy Bangkok for their series of campaigns for beloved toy brand LEGO, including Dragon, Spaceship, and Empire States. The ads are a clever play on the imagination that children have when constructing LEGO structures: how a few simple blocks can represent something as complex as a spaceship, powerful as a dragon, and majestic as the Empire State Building.

Coming close are also entries from TBWA\Thailand Bangkok, W Shanghai, Cheil Worldwide Hong Kong, DDB MUDRA Mumbai.

Radio & Audio

Making waves in the category built for sound are entries from Colenso BBDO Auckland, particularly for their work for DB Breweries: I’m Drinking It For You, which shows drinking low carb beer can be a romantic gesture, and The Paperless Newspaper Ad which is a series of audio ads that explain why you can’t have beer if you can’t save the planet.

Other companies that got multiple slots in this category also are Dentsu Inc., and Tokyo, McCann India Mumbai. Meanwhile, waving the Filipino flag proudly in this track is VMYL&R Philippines.

Print & Publishing

Ogilvy Bangkok once again dominates this round, also for their work with LEGO as well as with campaigns for Line Company Thailand, and Freeland. Ogilvy Bangkok’s work for Freeland feature chilling images that remind people of the truth behind certain animal products (kouprey and boar). Their work for Line, on the other hand.

Also running with multiple awards was Cheil Worldwide Hong Kong for their campaigns with candy makers Chupa Chups.

Print & Outdoor Crafts

Flawless design, masterful artistry and outstanding execution for print and outdoor is what judges are looking for in this campaign, and Cheil Worldwide Hong Kong has so far gained the most in this category, seven slots exactly. The group’s win so far is thanks to their work with brands Chupa Chups and Penguin Books.

Right behind Cheil Worldwide Hong Kong are Akzonobel India Mumbai and Dentsu Inc., Osaka.

PR

Recognizing the importance of PR, and celebrating the creative use of reputation, Spikes Asia 2019 is commending entrants whose strategies have resulted to successfully built trust and well-cultivated relationships with brands. Japanese-based agencies take the helm on this one with twelve entrants making it into the shortlist. Also worth noting is the dominance of Dentsu affiliated agencies including those based in India and Thailand with a total of ten entries. Meanwhile, Dentsu Inc., Tokyo currently sits on top of other agencies with a total of five slots for their work with Nikkei Blend, Indeed, Kyoto Sumida Aquarium, and Tuna Scope.
