PATTAYA – Congratulations go out to Anna Yang and Hsien Chao from J. Walter Thompson Shanghai, who are the winners of this year’s Young Lotus trophy, which they collected at the first of two Award Presentations this past Friday, March 19.
Anna and Hsien were one of 14 teams competing in this year’s Young Lotus Workshop, hosted by Hakuhodo Inc. The brief was to create a campaign in just 24-hours to elevate local cultural practice Muay Thai as a global sport.
Anna and Hsien also won the Young Lotus Popular Vote, which was determined after the ‘Hakuhodo Presents Young Lotus 2016’ Speaker Session on March 19 when delegates were subsequently invited to vote on their favorite team.
The other three finalist teams are: Rizqi Mufida Prasya and Wisnu Kusuma Mandala, Iris Worldwide Indonesia in Jakarta; Lap Wai Pang and Kin Wai Chan, McCann & Spencer Hong Kong; Shanghao Chen and Elysia Alim, BBDO Singapore.
“It’s all about a creative jump, how to leap higher. Creative jump means higher creativity makes more results, so how do you fly higher? Sometimes we have to ‘leap higher’ because we already have norms, sometimes we have to invent some new way to create some new concepts or ideas, and there are different ways to do that.” says Kentaro Kimura, Co-CEO & Executive Creative Director Hakuhodo Kettle Inc., Tokyo, who was Chairman of this year’s Young Lotus Workshop.
“Their presentation style was awesome and surprisingly great, because of that the presentation for the finalists were so amazing. If we picked out five teams for the finalists, the presentation time would have been five minutes for each, too short so we decided to stick to four teams so we could give them more time for their presentations.” says Takahiro Hosoda, TBWA\Hakuhodo, Tokyo and speaker for this year’s Young Lotus Workshop.
This year’s challenge tasked 28 young creatives to leap higher, to come up with innovative ideas that can overcome client difficulties and social issues. The Young Lotus teams were presented with live Muay Thai games to gain insight into the sport’s enriched cultural aspect and physical dynamic.
Cities represented at this year’s Young Lotus Workshop were Bangkok, Colombo, Dhaka, Dubai, Hong Kong, Ho Chi Minh City, Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, Manila, Mumbai, Singapore, Shanghai, Taipei, and Tokyo.
