SAN FRANCISCO – There are long form ads and then there’s Virgin America’s five-hour, 45-minute marathon. And it runs as a pre-roll on YouTube at that.
The online film essentially tracks a Newark to San Francisco flight with mannequins as passengers. Except for a baby’s cry and the usual in-flight white noise, there’s no dialogue to recommend this film that really showcases the tedious experience of flying on rival carriers – in this case Blah Airlines’s Flight 101, the antithesis of Virgin.
Eleven Inc. created the marathon pre-roll to showcase the Virgin difference by highlighting the experience of flying on competing carriers with their cramped seats, harsh lighting and next to no food and in-flight entertainment.
