TOKYO — Wunderman International Japan has named veteran communications specialist, Antony (Tony) Cundy, as president and representative director, effective September 1, 2014. Cundy will oversee operations in the Tokyo office—where he will be based—working with leading digital, data and direct teams to deliver integrated marketing solutions for Japan. He will succeed Kennosuke Saito, who has held the role since 2010, and will report to Martin Conneen, regional president, Asia Pacific.
“Fluent in both Japanese language and culture, Tony is well suited to lead our Tokyo operations,” Conneen said. “Tony’s planning expertise and new business expertise will continue our expansion plans for Japan.”
Cundy takes up the mantle after four years as executive business and strategy director at Publicis-Dentsu-affiliated Beacon Communications, where he had a hand in major brands such as Lenovo, Marlboro, Nike and Symantec, and grew the Beacon Healthcare unit. Preceding that, Cundy held management roles at DDB Japan and Europe, and Hakuhodo:Lintas (Lowe Tokyo), working with McDonald’s, Volkswagen, VANS, Unilever, Johnson & Johnson and Nestlé.
On his new appointment, Cundy said, “Wunderman understands where advertising is headed—it holds creative and strategy in equal value, and leverages data to create real-time consumer engagement across channels. I look forward to working with my colleagues from all disciplines to create the best solutions for our clients.”
