KUALA LUMPUR – Joshua Tay has been promoted to creative director at Y&R Malaysia, effective immediately, Lisa Hezila, managing director announced.
Tay is promoted from the role of associate creative director, which he held for two years. He originally joined Y&R Malaysia as art director in 2007, going on to become senior art director the following year, and creative group head in 2010.
An integral part of Y&R Malaysia’s vibrant young team, Tay has contributed to the agency’s numerous recent new business wins including Sunway Iskandar, Sun Life Insurance, EXIM Bank and MSIG, and stunning awards success with over 160 awards at international and local shows.
This year, Tay was part of Y&R Malaysia’s historic collaboration with Red Fuse and Y&R Myanmar to bring home Cannes Lion Gold for Colgate’s ‘Turning Packaging into Education’.
He started his advertising career after graduating from the Malaysian Institute of Art. His randomness, ‘kidult’ spirit and ‘challenge seeker’ behaviour have kept his passion burning for 18 years. Tay’s work has been recognised at both local level, including Kancil and Adfest, and at the highest international levels including Cannes Lions, ANDY Awards and D&AD.
“Congratulations to Josh on this well-deserved promotion to Creative Director. Having been with us for seven years, his dedication, passion, thinking, positivity and his randomness have made him one a valuable member of our family,” commented Lisa Hezila, managing director, Y&R Malaysia.
“On behalf of Y&R Malaysia, we are proud to have Josh in our team. He has played an integral part in our awards success, and I believe he has the potential to become the next game-changing creative leader to watch out for,” added Gigi Lee, executive creative director, Y&R Malaysia.
The agency’s awards haul this year has so far included six Cannes Lions, including 1 Health, plus success at AdFest and Ad Stars 2014. Last year saw 20 international awards across the Andy’s, New York Festivals, One Show, Clio, AdFest and Ad Stars.
Y&R Malaysia became the country’s most-awarded agency at Cannes 2012, its total 98 awards in just one year propelling them to The Big Won Report’s 6th in Asia, and 19th globally. Y&R Malaysia won the country’s highest accolade, the Golden Kancil, as well as being named Agency of the Year at the Kancil Awards, and Y&R was shortlisted for Malaysia Creative Agency of the Year, at the pan-regional Agency of the Year Awards.
