Economic help and restoration
Many people worldwide lost their jobs, and countless firms went out of business. The key targets were families that rely on food help programs or live paycheck to paycheck. Again, small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) are the ones that hurt the most by these closures.
The Google.org cash awards to Youth Business Intl, Opportunity Finance Network and Common Future were part of a more significant commitment by Google to help small firms get access to low-interest financing.
When a disaster strikes, one of the best ways to help those in need is to send them cash directly. The Family Independence Initiative, GiveDirectly, and GiveIndia have received massive funding from Google. A total of 149,000 persons, 64% of whom were women, received emergency monetary help from Google.org grantees in 2020.
Education support
COVID-19 saw millions of pupils absent from school at its height. There was a dramatic switch to virtual learning in response from parents, teachers, and school districts.
The tech giant offered a Distance Learning Fund to support institutions worldwide. Moreover, the funds helped teachers and parents access vital learning resources. The resources were handy in delivering exceptional educational opportunities to children.
Google also improved international learning networks. For example, Khan Academy was a beneficiary of its grants. The firm issued a grant for Khan to provide more COVID-19-specific tools for teachers and parents.
Furthermore, they were to offer the materials in over 20 languages. Google believed that the materials were crucial as they could serve a monthly audience of over 18 million learners.
The desire to keep children empowered made google donate more. INCO received funds to support local charities in Europe and Asia. The support intends to help students at risk of intellectual disabilities. Through the plan, INCO was to distribute personalized coaching on high-quality distance learning.
Other tech companies that offered support
Google is not the only tech company that stood to fight against the pandemic. Other entities played significant roles in ways that suited them most. Facebook, Cisco, Netflix, Amazon, Apple, and Microsoft also went out of their way to donate towards alleviating the ravages of the pandemic.
