Clean your Facebook feed with Ajax Social Wipes by VML and GPY&R

GLOBAL – January 15, 2014 –  If you once mindlessly "liked" pages like "Sleeping all day" or "Going slightly out of my way to step on a crunchy-looking leaf"–which you probably did during the great "become a fan" fever of 2009–your Facebook may now be cluttered with spam and NSFW photos that you’d rather not see.

In the interest of extending the new year cleaning to social media, Colgate-Palmolive’s cleaning brand Ajax has teamed up with VML and GPY&R to create Ajax Social Wipes, an app that "wipes" Facebook and Twitter newsfeeds clean in a matter of clicks.

To make the app work, users can connect their Facebook or Twitter accounts to the Ajax Social Wipes tool. The Facebook option rounds up all ‘liked’ pages so that users can see all of them at once and click on the ones they want to ‘unlike.’

Meanwhile, the Twitter option detects unwanted spam, flushing all bots from the user’s account within minutes.

While the app’s animation slows down the spring cleaning, and there isn’t yet a mechanism for determining which Facebook fan page is official and which one feeds spam, the app definitely makes it easier to detect double likes and weed out inactive or irrelevant pages.

"Ajax Wipes are all about efficacy and convenience. Creating a product that delivered these same benefits in the parallel online world we all regularly inhabit, felt fresh and, frankly, like a no brainer," Colgate-Palmolive marketing manager Damian Facciolo said.

Meanwhile, VML managing director Aden Hepburn said “Agencies don’t often get the chance to create something that people really want or need, and whilst this is a little bit of fun, it’s a utility tool that a lot of people will find is actually something they’ve subconsciously wanted for a while… it will actually help them clean up the social clutter they’ve been building up for years!”
