MANILA, PHILIPPINES — It’s time for Elha Nympha to show off her new sound with an original composition, “Babalik.” She produced the song with the help of Tiny Corpuz, Pray, and Schumi, and recorded her instrumental work and vocals at MFORE Studio. The single is set and is out now on all music streaming platforms!

Elha says that the song is inspired by a real-life incident she knew about. “It’s about a toxic relationship [where] the girl was blinded by love, no matter how toxic the guy is,” she says. She argues that this is a relatable experience for women. “Some of us ended up staying in [a] relationship because [we] love the guy or truly in love with [him],” she says, “so maybe [some of us] are listening while they’re in a tough situation or at the verge of breaking up.”

What’s unique about “Babalik” is that this is one of Elha’s first original compositions, meant to highlight her new R&B sound. She says that it took months and months to develop a final version because lots of ideas tend to pop up in the process. And while writing the song, she listened to other female R&B performers like SZA, Doja Cat, and fellow Filipina singer H.E.R., partly to see how she could shape her own sound.

So what does this first effort at writing and producing her own music mean for Elha? She wants to do more of it, she says. Indeed, we are seeing a very exciting time ahead for Elha Nympha, a promising R&B talent who is out to make her mark.
